From Bromborough Pool, Cheshire, Williams began with the Bromborough Pool Cricket Club, and later played two seasons in the Liverpool and District league, taking "nearly 200 wickets".〔(Deaths in the war, 1916 ) – Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, via ESPNcricinfo.
